KATIE MCCARTHY

Katie McCarthy, Solicitor, graduated from UCD in 1987 with a Bachelor of Civil Law. She qualified as a Solicitor in 1991. She then moved to Brussels where she completed a Contract with the European Commission. On her return to Ireland, she took up a position as a Solicitor with Hughes & MacEvilly in Cork from 1992 to 1996, where she advised and represented a number of Insurance Companies and large Public Bodies on a wide variety of issues, as well as Private Clients. She also lectured in law at the College of Commerce, Cork.

Katie returned to her native Kerry in 1996 and has been a Partner at Pierse McCarthy Lucey  Solicitors LLP, since then. She has considerable experience of litigation at all Court levels. Her areas of expertise are family law; claimant and defence work in accident cases and personal injuries; employment law and disputes in contracts and property. She also advises on wills, probate, administration of estates, conveyancing and the law of the elderly. She advises private clients, clubs and other voluntary organizations.

She frequently makes presentations to local organisations on a wide range of legal matters including Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney and The Nursing Home Support Scheme. She holds voluntary roles as a parish representatives in the Parish of Our Lady & St. Brendan’s, Tralee for the implementation of child protection guidelines and also sits on a local School Board of Management. She has undertaken training in mediation and qualified as a certified Mediator in 2011 which training complements her work as a Solicitor. She enjoys the outdoors, including sea swimming.
